Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing facilitates deep and lasting change. Clients are often amazed at how issues they've worked with for years in conventional talk therapy are no longer problematic. Not only does healing occur more rapidly, but clients often experience a sense of joy, openness and deep connection with themselves and others upon completion. EMDR is a therapeutic process using eye movements, sound or pulsations to stimulate both hemispheres of the brain. Focusing on a distressful (or positive) experience along with the bi-lateral stimulation, brings about changes in the brain that bring an individual into a state of greater balance. It was originally developed in the 1980s as a protocol for treating PTSD (Post traumatic Stress Disorder), especially for combat trauma. Since then its popularity has grown and an impressive body of research attests to its efficacy. It is now widely used to treat many different problems.
Trauma (combat, victim of crime, sexual or physical assault, natural disaster, medical procedures).
Anxiety, panic attacks, phobias.
Childhood Abuse (sexual, physical, emotional).
